Recently we received an email about this name change…

Good morning,

Following on from my previous email regarding the Australian Government’s campaign surrounding the name change to myID…

And so it went on… Assuming you know about the Australian Government’s digital ID app, here is some useful info. Most importantly, dont think that MyID is a scam, and MyGovID is not. It’s their new name!

In this email you will find a range of educational resources and visual digital assets designed to be easily shared via social media platforms, your website, newsletters or integrated into ongoing activities and discussions within your audience and community. By sharing this information with your audiences, you can help us to ensure people understand the name change and lower the risk of being caught up in scams.

Please download the resources here: www.myid.gov.au/resources

But what if you dont use MyID? That is fine, but it is a convenient way to securely access a range of government online services, like myGov, Centrelink, Director ID, Your Tax file number, Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) and the Australian Business Register (ABR).
Actually there are about 92 different government services on the list, and still more due.
In theory the myID service is secure enough that other services will probably start using it too, like ID at the local Post Office. I know they don’t do it yet, but they should. Great way to avoid government website-mimicking scams, by providing secure ID. Ask your local politician (preferably before the upcoming elections!) to look at this issue to help the elderly.
